Cure for common eye ailments have existed for ages and all eye specialists are trained to treat them. In contrast, most retinal diseases were thought to be untreatable until recently.

Continued research over the past few decades coupled with better understanding of retinal diseases means that most retinal diseases can be treated now. Surgical and diagnostic skills required for treating retinal diseases and eye tumors is vastly different from those needed for treating other eye diseases, creating the need for specialists dedicated only to treating vitreoretinal disorders.

The need for such specialized care of retinal diseases is particularly important to us in India, the diabetic capital of the world. Diabetes is one of the most common diseases to affect the retina.

This need for specialized care for retinal diseases prompted us to set up “The Retina Center”.
